A short playlist of calm classical piano. Play it while you bathe your dog. They probably won't notice. You will.
Why music during a bath
Dogs read your nervous system before they read the bathwater temperature. If you're rushing, tense, half-listening for the next interruption, they pick it up. A 35-minute piano playlist on low volume slows the room down. You move slower, your voice softens, the dog notices.
The Pethoven team bathes our own dogs to this playlist. We tested the Boccherini Minuet against a Chopin nocturne for three weeks. Boccherini won.
If you want to make it a ritual
- Start the music before the dog enters the bathroom. The room sets the tone.
- Volume slightly lower than conversation. You should hear the water clearly over it.
- Two pieces is usually enough for a full bath. The third becomes the towel-dry.
- End with something cheerful (we like the closing of Ode to Joy). The dog associates the wrap-up with the upbeat tempo.
