Massachusetts dogs deal with five months of winter, two months of tick-heavy spring and fall, and a hot July and August. That's a wider seasonal swing than most states, and a generic shampoo doesn't serve all of it well. We built our formulas to hold up across the year without you needing a different product every season.

Hard water in much of the state

Massachusetts water hardness varies a lot by town. The Quabbin and Wachusett systems that supply most of Eastern Mass (Boston, Cambridge, much of Middlesex County) are fairly soft. But many South Shore, Cape, and Western Mass towns run on harder well-fed systems. Hard water doesn't hurt a dog, but it can leave a chalky residue in the coat after rinsing — our shampoos are formulated to rinse cleanly even in moderately hard water.

Winter salt and cracked pads

Boston, Worcester, and the bulk of the state get treated with a heavy mix of road salt and brine all winter. Dogs walking these sidewalks pick up the salt on their paws, lick it off, and end up with cracked, sore pads by February. Paw wax used consistently from December through March prevents most of it. It's also worth doing a quick paw wipe-down after every walk — even just plain water — to keep salt off the skin.

Long coats and tick season

Massachusetts has some of the worst tick numbers in the country, especially in the Berkshires, Cape Cod, and the South Shore. A well-conditioned coat that doesn't mat is genuinely easier to check for ticks than a tangled one. The coconut-peppermint shampoo is designed for long-coated breeds — golden retrievers, doodles, shepherds, anything with feathering — and helps keep the coat moving so a tick check actually works.

Plant-based formulas

Questions answered

Common questions from Massachusetts customers

Do you ship to the Cape and Islands?

Yes. Standard ground reaches Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket in 3–6 business days from our US warehouse (the islands occasionally add a day).

Does the shampoo help with tick-checking?

Indirectly, yes. The shampoos don't repel ticks — no plant-based shampoo reliably does, despite what some brands claim. But a clean, well-conditioned coat is much easier to part and inspect, which is the actual prevention.

Is this safe to use with topical flea/tick treatments?

Generally yes — most spot-on treatments (Frontline, Advantage, NexGard's topical variant) are designed to withstand normal bathing 48 hours after application. Don't bathe within 24 hours before or after applying a topical. If your dog is on a different product, check with your vet.
