Dog shampoo
for Labradoodles
Plant-based formulas matched to the Labradoodle coat and the breed’s known skin needs.
Labradoodles, like Goldendoodles, inherit a Poodle-style coat that requires significant maintenance. The Labrador side tends to make the coat slightly wavier and shorter than Goldendoodles, but the bathing and grooming approach is similar.
About the Labradoodle coat
Wavy to curly hair coat, generally lower-shedding than a Lab but higher-maintenance than a Goldendoodle in some respects. Varies significantly by generation and which parent the dog favors.
Common skin and coat issues in Labradoodles
- Atopic dermatitis (inherited from both parent breeds)
- Hip-and-back hot spots from sitting
- Ear infections
- Skin issues under curls
- Lab-inherited tendency to over-bathe-induced dryness
Labradoodles inherit the Lab's love of water and mess plus the Poodle's grooming demands. Most owners need to balance the Lab side's drive to get dirty with the Poodle side's need for non-stripping shampoo. A mild moisturizing formula every 3-4 weeks is the sweet spot.
Bathing tips for Labradoodles
- Brush before every bath β wet curls mat instantly
- Use a moisturizing shampoo; clean-rinse formulas dry the curly coat
- Watch the ears β Lab + Poodle = double-prone to ear infections
- After swimming, rinse with plain water and dry completely
What we recommend for Labradoodles
Moisturizing formula handles the curly coat; supports Lab-inherited skin tendencies.
Common questions about Labradoodle bath care
Are Labradoodles really hypoallergenic?
No breed is truly hypoallergenic. F1 Labradoodles (first generation) shed and produce dander like Labs. F1B (more Poodle) shed less. People with mild dog allergies often do OK with Labradoodles; severe allergies, no.
How is Labradoodle care different from Goldendoodle?
Generally similar β both inherit the Poodle coat maintenance load. Labradoodles tend to be slightly higher-energy and dirtier (Lab side), so plain-water rinses between baths become more useful.
My Labradoodle's coat is changing β why?
The puppy coat changes to the adult coat between 6 and 14 months. The texture, curl pattern, and even shedding can change. Daily brushing during this period prevents serious matting.
